Internal medicine physician Seth Courson, DO, is set to join SGMC Health’s growing team of healthcare providers.
Dr. Courson will begin seeing patients at SGMC Valdosta Medical Clinic, located at 3207 Country Club Dr., starting June 9.
A Valdosta native, Courson brings a strong connection to the community, years of clinical experience= and a heartfelt approach to patient care. He believes that the foundation of exceptional care lies in the relationship between a physician and their patient.
“Patients appreciate time spent with them and a physician who is empathetic to their needs,” Courson said. “Every patient I have is treated like family. It’s an honor, but also a great responsibility, to be involved in their care, especially during the most challenging moments of their lives.”
Inspired by his mother Dr. Ellen Courson, a now-retired obstetrician/gynecologist, and guided by exceptional mentors during his medical training, he chose internal medicine for its complexity, depth and the opportunity it offers to build long-term relationships with patients.
“I’ve had the privilege of caring for friends and family in this community, including people I’ve known long before I became a physician,” he said. “It means a lot to me to be able to give back in this way.”
Courson is excited to join SGMC Health, noting the organization’s commitment to supporting its staff and providing high-quality care.
“SGMC Health provides great resources for physicians to care for their patients,” he said. “Being part of the hospital community here is vital to my patients’ well-being.”
Courson earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and completed his medical education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to complete his residency training in Internal Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens.
Outside of the clinic, Courson enjoys Georgia football, Atlanta Braves baseball and spending time with his wife, Hannah, and their four children.
