Hot Generals to host Sherwood Christian

DASHER — Georgia Christian takes on Sherwood Christian under the lights tonight, trying to keep this hot baseball start going.

Though they fell Tuesday at Southwest Georgia Academy, the Generals are on fire at 14-2 and had an eight-game winning streak. That included an 8-1 win over Sherwood in Albany in March.

Monday’s power rankings update on MaxPreps shows the Generals No. 5. Strength of schedule has Gatewood No. 1, with Edmund Burke, SGA and Trinity Christian ahead of Georgia Christian. The top 12 make state, meaning they are in good position to host at least one home series.

GCS is Region 3-AA with SGA, Sherwood and Southland Academy. The Warriors have been a thorn — both of the Generals’ losses — but they have won handily over the other two. Besides today’s Sherwood game, they’ll rematch with the Raiders in Americus on April 25th.

Offense has come easy for Georgia Christian. They have scored at least 10 runs in 12 of their 16 contests.

Carson Hanks has a blistering .511 average, which leads the squad, which isn’t an easy task considering that Colton Hall and Bo Miller are both hitting .429 and Jett Guilliams is at .404. Some teams in Georgia do not have an individual player hitting as hard as Georgia Christian, which boasts a .339 team batting average.

Mac Bowling leads in runs scored at 28. Guilliams and Hanks have driven in 22 runs apiece.

Bowling and Guilliams have the most wins on the mound.
