Local athletes win at GIAA region track meet

ALBANY — Valwood, Georgia Christian and Highland Christian all competed Wednesday at region track meets at Hugh Mills Stadium. Valwood competed in Class 3A, with the other two schools in 2A.
Tayt Snellgrove and Triston White were 1–2 in the 100 meters and Snellgrove and Ayundrae Belcher were 1-2 in the 200 meters for the Valiants. Their 100 times were 11.65 seconds and 11.78, respectively. In the 200, Snellgrove ran in 23.65 and Belcher in 23.76.
Jack Melendez was second in shot for Valwood, throwing 42-5.5.
Georgia Christian’s Rowan Lawson swept shot put and discus, his best throw in the latter being 121-8, and 40-4.25 in the former.
Deerfield-Windsor swept first place in 3A team standings. The Valiants were third and Lady Valiants were fifth. Highland’s boys were fourth and girls were fifth in 2A. Georgia Christian’s boys were fifth.
Summer Milligan won the 100 meters for Highland in 12.82 seconds, and the 200 in 26.44 seconds, their only first places of the day. Noah Howington was second for the Eagles in the 1,600 in 5:10 and Anna Milligan was runner-up in the 300 hurdles in 51.16. The Lady Eagles ran the 4×100 in 54.44 seconds to finish second.

Boys 100, Hayden Coats (3rd) and Carson Hanks (6th); Girls 100, Jaya Guilliams (5th) and Jovie Copeland (7th); Girls 200, Adleigh Greene (8th); Girls 400, Greene (7th); Boys 800, Louis Roquemore (8th); Boys 4×100, 3rd; Girls 4×100, 6th; Girls discus, Kenna Mira (7th); Boys long jump, Tyson Copeland (3rd); Girls long jump, Copeland (8th); Girls shot put, Mira (6th).

For those qualifying, state is May 1-3 at Strong Rock Christian.
