The William Ashley House originated in Troupville. In 1860, Dr. William Ashley (1832-1867) moved his home to 312 North Patterson Street in Valdosta, Lowndes County’s new county seat. The house featured eight-foot windows, long shutters, brick and mortar fireplaces, and wide planked floors in each room. Once the house was moved to Valdosta, a room and separate entrance were added so that Dr. Ashley could continue his medical practice from his home. This home was demolished in 1950; however, the wood from the structure was purchased by Paul Hatcher.  Photo & Information courtesy of the Valdosta Daily Times Archives, Wiregrass Digital History Project and Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum.
