Vikettes win Region 1-6A track championship

VALDOSTA — Lowndes continued their track and field dominance this week. The Vikettes won the Region 1-6A championship and Vikings were second at the meet, which was held at Valdosta High Tuesday and Thursday.
The second day of events, Thursday, was all track.
Faith Brown and Kaylin Hunter of Valdosta were 1-2 in the 100-meter dash. Brown’s time was 12.23 seconds and Hunter crossed the finish line at 12.58, according to times posted to MileSplit.
Valdosta’s boys won the 4×800 relay in 8:17 and the girls were victorious in the 4×100 in 48.28 seconds.
Lowndes’ lone win Thursday was in the 4×400, which they ran in 3:57, nine seconds ahead of second place. The Vikings and Vikettes dominated field events Tuesday and had several second places Thursday despite few golds.
Also in the top four for Valdosta:
Girls 200: Brown 2nd and Hunter 4th; Boys 800: Jacob McGhin 4th; Girls 100 hurdles: Paris Brewton 4th; Boys 300 hurdles: Xavier Oliver 4th; Girls 4×400: 4th; Girls 4×800: 3rd.
Also in the top four for Lowndes
Boys 100: Ty Jennings 3rd; Girls 100: Raniya Head 3rd and Ari Williams 4th; Boys 200: Jennings 3rd; Girls 200 Jahkiya Rowe 3rd; Girls 400: Johnson 2nd and Valerie Roberts 3rd; Boys 1,600: Ethan Burnett 3rd and Dylan Chambers 4th; Girls 100 hurdles: Brailey Huewitt 2nd; Boys 110 hurdles: Noah Fernandez 3rd; Girls 300 hurdles: Williams 3rd and Huewitt 4th; Boys 4×100: 3rd; Boys 4×400: 4th; Girls 4×100: 2nd; Boys 4×800: 3rd; Girls 4×800: 4th.
Three track events were run as a final on the first day. The Vikettes’ Johnson triumphed in the 800 in those races. On social media, Lowndes track announced she broke a school record with her time of 2:12.47.
Sectionals will be in a week at Westlake in Atlanta.
