The Strickland Building, c. 1910 – Valdosta’s first skyscraper, built at the corner of West Hill Avenue and Patterson Street on “The Old Strickland Corner” by B.F. Strickland and Corley Strickland. The Valdosta Daily Times reported that the Stricklands wanted to “erect a building that would be a credit to the town for years to come.” Two stores owned by the Stricklands were demolished to make way for the modern structure.  Photo and information courtesy of the Valdosta Daily Times, Wiregrass Region Digital History Project and Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum. The museum is open free to the public 11 a.m..-4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday.
