SHS grad Ryan Stovall powers TU
Staff report
THOMASVILLE – Ryan Stovall’s home run streak reached six games March 25 at Thomas University.
Stovall, a 2005 SHS grad, is now a senior at TU and is having a great run with the university.
Stovall, TU’s leadoff hitter, homered for the sixth straight game as the Night Hawks crushed Georgia Southwestern 15-8 at Varnedoe Stadium to win their fifth straight game.
“Stovall’s swing the bat well,” TU (21-8) coach Mike Lee said. “He’s setting it up for everybody else.”
Stovall has seven home runs during his current streak and nine dingers in his last nine games. His 13 homers and 32 RBIs lead the club.
He also leads the Night Hawks in hits, runs, total bases and triples.
Stovall scored four runs Wednesday as TU reached double digits in runs for the ninth time this year. Against Georgia Southwestern, TU pounded out 13 hits, nine of which went for extra bases.
“We’re starting to swing the bat a little bit,” Lee said.
Junior Jonathan Rossi, batting in the No. 2 spot, tallied three hits and four RBIs. Junior Tyler Braddock added three hits, including two doubles.
TU’s top five batters amassed 11 hits and 11 RBIs.
TU did struggle on the mound, though, allowing five walks and 10 hits. It also committed five errors, as two of Georgia Southwestern’s runs were unearned.
Sam Roberts tallied his team-leading fourth win in relief. He allowed two hits and one earned run in four innings.
Mike Vitello belted his first home run for the Night Hawks.
