Watson & Griner

Hannah Elizabeth Griner and Samuel Jared Watson were united in marriage Nov. 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Valdosta with the Reverend David Rogers of Crosspoint Church officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Breman Griner and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Ingram, all of Alapaha, and Mr. and Mrs. Troy Griner of Nashville.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Watson of Naylor and the grandson of Ms. Kathryn Yancey and the late Mr. Sam Yancey and the late Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Watson, all of Lakeland.

Bobby Ingram, the bride’s uncle, played the piano while the guests arrived. Christy Wade, the groom’s sister, opened the ceremony singing “Holy Ground.” Johnathan Montgomery played “Surely the Presence” on the piano for the grandmothers’ and mothers’ processional. “This Kind of Love” for the piano and vocal bridal processional. “I love you, Lord” was performed by Trista Wisenbaker, Tara Purvis and Johnathan Montgomery.

Best man was the father of the groom. Groomsmen were Spence Romine, Thad Mitchell, Ashley Moore; Jake Purvis, Joey Wisenbaker and Scott Simpson of Valdosta.

Ring bearer was Parker Wade.

Matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Lydia McCurdy of Cartersville. Bridesmaids were Heather Medley of Watkinsville; Ansley Souther of Jacksonville, Fla.; Austin Smith and Lori Smith of Douglas; Lori Spikes of Nashville, Ga.; and Dwan Simpson of Valdosta. They wore black taffeta knee-length dresses with black satin sashes.

Flower girl was Pressley Wade, who wore an empire waisted ivory, satin gown hand-made by the groom’s mother. She carried an ivory satin flower basket with an embellished brooch.

The bride, escorted by her father, wore an ivory satin gown by Priscilla of Boston. The fitted silhouette, with a strapless notched neckline, flared at the hemline and featured an embellished brooch at the center bustline. She wore a borrowed ivory, satin-trimmed veil from her sister and was generously provided with jewelry by Girardin Jewelers.

The bride and bridesmaids carried bouquets of fresh freedom red roses bound with ivory satin.

Cathy Harrison directed the wedding.

A reception was hosted by the bride’s parents at the historical Threatte Center in Lakeland, where heavy hors d’ oeuvres were served at stations around the dining room. The catering and decorations were by John Glosson of J&D Designs in Douglas.

The four-tiered wedding cake was covered in white buttercream with bands of black satin ribbon and red roses on the bottom of each tier. The groom’s cake was chocolate and accompanied by chocolate-covered strawberries. The Fabulous Classics provided the music for the reception.

After a honeymoon in Aspen, Colo., the couple is living in Valdosta.
