As the result of a fatal car accident on June 17, 2010, John Lang Cheek lost his life. John, 49, is the son of Tom & Martha Cheek Sr. of Live Oak, Fla. He was accompanied by no one other than his dog Raleigh, who also lost his life. John is survived by two children, Caroline Cheek, 18, and Tyler Cheek, 10, of Tallahassee. John has three siblings, Anna (David) Montgomery of Wildwood, Tom (Chris) Cheek Jr. of Live Oak and Bill (Becky) Cheek of Ashville, N.C. After John’s graduation from Suwannee High School in 1979, he pursued a degree in Computer Technology. Other than enjoying outdoor activities such as water skiing, snow skiing, camping, fishing, golfing and watching the Florida Gators perform, he was a wonderful father and a great man to say the least. Although he will be greatly missed by family and friends he will never be forgotten. Services for Mr. Cheek were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Will Finnin officiating.

David C. Johnston

David C. Johnston, 86, of Branford, Fla. passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Health Center of Lake City, Fla.

He was born January 21, 1924 in Naples, Fla., the son of Lowell T. and Grace (Emerick) Johnston. He attended high school in Mayo, Fla. and joined the Army in 1942. He applied for and was accepted to the officer cadet program, receiving his commission in 1943. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1965 having achieved the rank of Lt. Col. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University and a master’s degree from Valdosta State University. He taught school in Live Oak, Fla. until his retirement in 1986.

He married Louvain Scott in November 1943. She preceded him in death in 1997.

He is survived by his children, Bill and Ann Johnston of Florida and Jim and Kath Johnston of Kansas, along with 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Moses and his wife Betty of Mayo, Fla. Three brothers, Raymond, Ralph and Bob Johnston and one sister, Carole Ashton, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Paran Baptist Church at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2010 where Rev. Ed Wimberley officiated. Burial followed at Maypop Cemetery with full military honors.

Jennie M. Tamburello

Jennie M. Tamburello, 80, of Live Oak, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Good Samaritan Center in Live Oak, Fla.  Born in Tientsen, China, she came to Florida in 1971 from Bound Brook, N.J.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Tamburello.  She is survived by daughters, Cynthia Dougherty, Rose Burke and Anna Angelacci; three sisters, Jean Calabrese, Irene Smith, and Carol Cafferty; and seven grandchildren. Barbara Lou Carmichael McIntosh

Barbara Lou Carmichael McIntosh passed away Monday, June 14, 2010 at Haven Hospice in Lake City after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a homemaker and loved to travel with her sisters every chance possible.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim & Eula Carmichael; sisters, Exie Neely and Olga Bonds; brother Garner Carmichael and daughter Pamela Lynn McIntosh. Survivors include son Wesley McIntosh of Live Oak, daughter, Tonya (Keenan) Tyre of Live Oak; grandchildren, Neil (Becky) McIntosh of Perry, Micah and Christian Tyre of Live Oak; great grandchildren, Kristopher, Sarah, Kay, Jonathon and MaKenzie McIntosh of Perry; brothers, Doyle (Anne) Carmichael, Jack (Joanne) Carmichael and Jerry (Jackie) Carmichael all of Live Oak; sisters Judy Nutt, Live Oak, Lynda (James) Jackson, Gainesville, Nancy (Drew) Allen, Jacksonville, Peggy (Marvin) Buchanan, Day, Fla. and Bonita Williams, Macclenny, special sister-in-law Marjorie Carmichael, Live Oak; long time friend, Debbie Taylor, Perry and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Clayland Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, at 11 a.m.  Services will be conducted by Rev. Maureen Feeny

Maureen Feeny, 81, of Live Oak, Fla. passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 in the Suwannee Valley Care Center, Lake City, Fla. The Cardiff, Wales native moved to Live Oak in 1993 from West Palm Beach, Fla. She was the owner/operator of the Feeny’s Trailer Park, Live Oak, Fla.

She is survived by her son, Gerard P. Feeny, Jr., Wellington, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Murphy and Suzanne Fry, both of Wales; four brothers, Tony Ogle, Spring Hill, Fla., Vincent Murphy, David Murphy and Michael Murphy, all of Wales; four grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm Friday, June 25, 2010 at Daniels Funeral Home and Crematory.
