Many riders from Jacobs’ Ladder and some from Hands & Hearts, Thomasville, participated in the yearly event. The morning started early with oldies music being played through the system provided by Azalea City Lights & Sounds.

Amy Fraher was instrumental in getting many items and services donated, from places such as All About You Salon & Day Spa, Ameri-med Pharmacy, Chick-fil-A, Feathering the Nest, Happy Tailz Grooming Salon, Merle Norman Studio, Mickey’s Grocery, and Smack Mama’s Café & Pub.

Horses were prepared and riding students assembled for their showmanship classes. The day’s judge was Tim Hall of Ray City. Twelve participants competed in showmanship and earned ribbons as they worked in partnership with their horses, said Leslie Jacobs.

Before the riding classes began, viewers were treated to a Parelli demonstration by Ryan Pfouts and his horse, Valentino; Carol Norris and her horse, Teddy; and Kirsten McGee with her horse, Sunny.

Beginning riders competed in equitation and trail classes next. Beginners were assisted by a horse leader and sidewalkers. Volunteers for the day’s classes were Pfouts, Norris, Genna Kasun, Shane Novack, Monica Sue Drawyer, Stephanie Frye, Angel Ross, and Allison Mallory-Luchini.

Fifty ribbons were awarded, with each participant getting at least two ribbons for their classes.

Summer camps will be happening in June. Special needs children from ages 5–15 may attend from June 1-4. Jacobs’ Ladder will be working with Valdosta State University Continuing Education summer program this year, providing two weeks of horseback riding camp, June 7-11 and June 21-25.

Anyone wishing to learn more about volunteer opportunities or enrolling new riders is encouraged to call Jacobs’ Ladder at (229) 794-1188.
