Voter turnout over 66% as Lowndes County supports Republicans, incumbents

VALDOSTA — Roughly two-thirds of registered voters in Lowndes County cast ballots in Tuesday’s general election.
Of the county’s 72,610 registered voters, some 47,946 participated — 66.03%
The presidential race saw Republican Donald J. Trump receiving 28,014 votes, leading over Democrat Kamala D. Harris with 19,395 votes. Third-party and independent candidates, including Chase Oliver (139 votes), Jill Stein (87 votes), Claudia De la Cruz (45 votes), and Cornel West (78 votes), collectively gathered modest support. Additionally, there were 111 unresolved write-in votes for various candidates.
In the U.S. House of Representatives race for District 8, incumbent Republican Austin Scott of Tifton received 28,865 votes to Democrat Darrius Butler’s 17,598 votes in Lowndes County. The district includes 29 counties, but the Georgia Secretary of State’s website showed Scott with 225, 321 votes to Butler’s 102,014 throughout the district.
In the race for County Commission Chair, incumbent Bill Slaughter, a Republican, secured 27,832 votes, surpassing Democrat Kelley Saxon, who received 18,453 votes. There were 100 unresolved write-ins in this race out of a total of 47,945 votes cast.
For County Commission – District 1, incumbent Joyce E. Evans, a Democrat, ran unopposed, receiving 10,283 votes. The race saw 352 unresolved write-ins, with a total of 12,450 votes cast, marking a 55.80% turnout in the district.
In the County Commission – District 5 race, Michael Smith, a Republican, won with 21,087 votes, defeating Democrat Ron J. Bythwood, who received 7,671 votes. There were 36 unresolved write-ins, with a total of 29,656 votes cast, marking a 74.03% turnout in this district.
In the Clerk of Superior Court race, incumbent Republican Beth Copeland Greene ran unopposed, earning 37,839 votes, with 925 unresolved write-ins.
For Sheriff, incumbent Ashley Paulk, a Democrat, won unopposed with 41,615 votes, with 1,088 unresolved write-ins.
Clay Guess, a Republican, won the tax commissioner race without opposition, receiving 37,597 votes. There were 1,019 unresolved write-ins.
In the coroner’s race, Austin Fiveash, an incumbent Republican, won with 28,379 votes against Democrat Latonya S. Gordon, who received 17,711 votes. A total of 67 unresolved write-ins were recorded.
In the State House of Representatives – District 174, incumbent Republican John Corbett ran unopposed, receiving 4,723 votes. There were 74 unresolved write-ins, with a total of 5,394 votes cast, indicating a 74.31% turnout for the district.
For State House of Representatives – District 175, John LaHood, an incumbent Republican, won with 16,081 votes, defeating Anissa Knight Wiseman, a Democrat, who secured 5,730 votes. There were 33 unresolved write-ins, with a total of 22,378 votes cast, marking a 75.26% turnout in this district.
In State House of Representatives – District 176, incumbent Republican James D. Burchett, who was unopposed, gathered 947 votes out of 1,223 cast in this district, which had a turnout of 57.36%.
In State House of Representatives – District 177, incumbent Democrat Dexter Sharper led with 11,355 votes, defeating Clay Griner, a Republican, who received 6,939 votes.
Other Republican incumbents who ran unopposed were:
— Brad Shealy, District Attorney – Southern Judicial Circuit, secured 37,788 votes. This race saw 1,241 unresolved write-ins.
— Justin Cabral, Solicitor General – State Court, received 37,652 votes with 1,028 unresolved write-ins.
— Russ Goodman, State Senate – District 8, received 37,567 votes. There were 1,420 unresolved write-ins.
