VALDOSTA — Lowndes County introduced Mike Fletcher as the county’s engineer.

Previously a project engineer for ASA Engineering, Fletcher has worked on about 30 to 40 county projects. Fletcher attended his first Lowndes County Board of Commissioner’s meeting Tuesday night after he started Feb. 14.

With about 11 years experience as a professional engineer, Fletcher said he was interested in the governing aspect of engineering.

“It’s a whole different opportunity from being on the design end of the spectrum to being on the governing and approving side,” Fletcher said.

Fletcher worked for ASA Engineering for five years and has worked on county projects such as road design, water and sewer extensions, and subdivision site designs.

“There wasn’t a piece of the engineering department that hadn’t been touched by him in some way,” said public information officer Paige Dukes. “Having been on the other side of the table, he wanted to help us better serve our residents.”

A Lowndes High School graduate, Fletcher attended the Southern College of Technology.

Fletcher replaces former county engineer Charlie Clark.
