Sting operation nets two drug arrests

Saturday, April 17, the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), and Mayo Correctional Institution (MCI) teamed up to conduct a drug investigation said the LCSO. Reports state, as a result of the investigation a 1993 Ford Explorer was stopped on U.S. 27 west after the driver of the Explorer had dropped off the passenger, Mitzi G. Canard, 23, 210 Thor Ave. NE #105, Palm Bay, Fl. and her infant child at MCI.
The report states the driver, Khadijah E. Yasin, 20, 1711 Monterey Drive #202, Palm Bay, Fl., who also had an infant child with her was stopped by LCSO Deputy Geoff Condy who conducted a K-9 search with Paska, LCSO and TCSO deputies.
During the search approximately 31 grams of cannabis was found in a diaper bag. Yasin was arrested for possession of cannabis and transported to Taylor County Jail.
According to the report by LCSO, a motel room in Perry was also searched as a result of Canard and Yasin being under surveillance. During the search about 17 grams of cannabis was found at the motel.
Officers who interviewed Canard at MCI said she confessed to possessing the cannabis and was also arrested for introduction or possession of a controlled substance and was taken to the Lafayette County Jail.
Both infant children were picked up by the Department of Children and Families.
The 1993 Ford Explorer was seized by LCSO, according to the report.
