Barbara Savage DeBono

Barbara DeBono, 78, died on March 27, 2011 at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Florida. Barbara was born in New York City to Henry A. and Lucy M. Savage. She married Louis DeBono on October 8, 1950. Barbara and Lou moved to Live Oak in 1970 with their four children.

Barbara was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Live Oak Woman’s Club and the Live Oak Garden Club. She was the owner of Let’s Pretend Daycare and loved caring for children.

Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Claire Smith. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lou DeBono, her children, Ross (Donna) DeBono, Robert DeBono, Michael (Tamie) DeBono, son-in-law Frank Smith, sister Louise Fontaine, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral mass was held at 1 p.m. on March 29, 2011 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Anderson Curl, 96, McAlpin, Fl. passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011 after a long illness. The life long resident of McAlpin was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 76 years: Mattie E. Curl, McAlpin, Fl; one daughter: Syble & Alonzo Adams, Deleon Springs, Fl; one son: Conny & Ramona Curl, McAlpin, Fl; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services for Mr. Curl were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Cordero and Rev. Leroy Dobbs officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Albert B. Applewhite

Albert B. Applewhite, 96, Dowling Park, Fl. passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 after a long illness. The Thomasville, Ga. native moved to Dowling Park in 1982 from Ft. Myers, Fl. and retired from Hart’s Dairy in Ft. Myers. Mr. Applewhite served on the Salvation Army board in Lee County and was president of the Lions Club in Lee County. He served as a deacon for Bixler Memorial Advent Christian Church in Dowling Park, Fl. Mr. Applewhite is survived by his three daughters: Elizabeth Edelman, Ormond Beach, Fl.; Dotty Watson, Eustace, Texas; Kay Grantham, Maryville, TN; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at Bixler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Setzer officiating. Interment followed in the Bixler Memorial East Cemetery.

George C.D. Newhard

George C.D. Newhard, Sr., 68, of Live Oak, FL. passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011. The Allentown, PA native moved to Live Oak in 1973. He served his country during the Vietnam War as a Corporal with the Marine Corps. Mr. Newhard retired from P.C.S., White Springs, FL. after several years as a mechanic. He was a member of Day Masonic Lodge #166 and attended First Baptist Church of Dowling Park.

Mr. Newhard is survived by his wife: Barbara J. Newhard, Live Oak, FL; two sons: George C.D. Newhard, Jr. (Dawn), Virginia Beach, VA; David E. Newhard (Jeannie), Live Oak, FL; daughter: Tina Nolan, Live Oak, FL; sister: Mabel Bleiler, Allentown, PA; brother: Adam Newhard (Gloria), Allentown, PA; fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Daniels Funeral Homes, Live Oak, FL. A service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Daniels Memorial Chapel with Rev. Shawn Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Dowling Park Cemetery with military honors.
