Valdosta State goalkeeper Olivia Mills earned Blazer Soccer’s second Gulf South Conference weekly award of the season. Arielle Sabina earned the honor earlier in the season and Mills earned the GSC Defender of the Week award this week for her performance against North Alabama.
Mills notched her seventh shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory against North Alabama to claim sole possession of second place in the conference Sunday. Of VSU’s eight wins of the season, seven have been shutouts by Mills.
Normally Valdosta State’s defense barely lets Mills do any work as she has only needed nine saves in seven victories. While the Blazer defense did not allow many opportunities to North Alabama, Mills did make four saves in the match to help secure the important victory for VSU.
For the season, Mills owns a .682 save percentage and has notched 30 saves on the year. She has given up 14 goals for a 1.27 goals against average per game.
Mills will lead her team against South Carolina-Aiken tonight at 5 p.m, and against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 7 p.m.
