Why is it that the rant and rave and obituaries run 2 weeks behind in the online version of the Democrat?? Also taking the condition of our nation I think that the Democrat should Change its name to the Republican!!

I want to rant about BHS forgetting that football is the reason they have homecoming week. Yelling at the football players to stay seated at Big Blue Raid is RIDICULOUS! They are the reason WE, as a community get together for Homecoming! We hardly have any support for these boys that get out and play on Thursday/Friday nights. Let’s start acting like they mean something to this town! They may not win every game, but they are proud to be BUCCANEERS! Now let’s give them some support, respect and faith!

As a Suwannee County resident, taxpayer and someone that has owned several businesses during my lifetime, I feel compelled to comment on the recent controversy over the raise given to the county coordinator. If the reports I read in this newspaper over the last several months are accurate, the coordinator has made several personnel moves that have saved the County hundreds of thousands of dollars. What does our Commissioners do? Instead of acknowledging the added responsibility and following your own rules, (which I would interpret as good business practices) he gets a public beat down. Where is the incentive for other departments to follow that example and bring additional savings to the County? Little wonder he has no interest in the County Manager position. To my Commissioners I say pay the man what he is worth and turn him loose on the other departments and see what kind of saving he can find. We finally have someone here that knows how to manage and the majority wants to chase him off. Your actions make no sense to me.

I wonder if the Suwannee River remaining at all time lows for such extended periods of time is more than just a drought. I have seen a lot of new sinkholes lately as well. It sure is worrisome. I wonder if there is something going on that is man-made as opposed to a shortfall of rain for a long period of time.

I wonder why we continue to see semi trucks driving through the middle of downtown Live Oak.

It was my understanding that when the truck route was built that that was going to reroute trucks from having to come directly through town causing traffic issues at the intersection of 90 and 129, they’re just not using it and I was wondering if there was anything that anyone else feels like we could do to have them use the truck route that they’re supposed to be. Thank you.

Just a little information for all you voting folks of Suwannee County. Ya’ll need to wake up your county commissioners. With all the good folks out of work here, the commissioners hire folks from out of town and put them into high paying jobs they don’t live here so they don’t pay taxes here either. Listen to the sucking sound of your hard earned taxes escaping the local economy. Thanks.

Hallelujah! And kudos to City Councilman Adam Prins or this successful effort to end the city opt out insurance program. This program got very close to being fraudulent and certainly was an ugly abuse of the taxpayer’s money. It’ is great to see our community leaders working together to right a wrong and do it timely. Thanks Mr. Prins for looking out for the taxpayers of Live Oak’s best interest. While you are working saving taxpayers’ money please consider consolidation of city/county government. The duplication of services is a ridiculous waste of money.

Let me get this straight, we have an interstate at the northern end of our county with numerous existing commercial operations attracting thousands of consumers and guests daily. Someone has now come up with the bright idea of constructing a landfill on the site because there are holes that were dug during the rock mining operations. Do you know that the blasting conducted during the mining operation likely has affected underground structures – cracks or created fissures? The new city well is less than a mile from the proposed locations. Are you CRAZY? This is clearly a risk to our water supply. There are many other logical sites to open a landfill. Please find an alternative that doesn’t  adversely affect the gateway to town by creating site and smell issues. Not to mention likely poisoning our water supply. Let’s use some common sense. With the Governor gutting DEP we can’t anticipate any relief from them regarding this project. We need for the County Commission to put a stop to this proposal before it goes any further.
