The Blazers improved to 39-2 overall and 22-0 in Gulf South Conference play with 8-1 and 4-1 victories over the Tigers. Valdosta State has now won 33 games in a row.

Freshman Angela O’Connor led Valdosta State at the plate with the team’s only home run, a team-high four runs batted in and a run scored. She went 4 for 8 at the plate. Also going 4 for 8 was Samantha Posey, who finished with a team-high two doubles and an RBI, with two runs scored. Natalia Morozova went 3 for 6 with three RBIs in the doubleheader.

Valdosta State pitchers Alanna Hadley and Brianna Hancock picked up wins Saturday to improve their records to 20-1 and 12-1, respectively. Hancock struck out nine batters and walked one, while Hadley struck out five and walked two. They both only allowed one run. Hancock only gave up three hits and Hadley allowed six.

The Blazers struck first blood in Game 1. In the second inning, Marti Littlefield doubled and moved to third on a Morozova bunt, then Ashley Steinhilber plated her with a single up the middle. West Alabama answered with a run, but it would be the Tigers’ only run of the game.

Valdosta State came back to score three runs in the top of the third. Courtney Albritton singled up the middle and moved to second on a passed ball. Morgan Johnson walked next, then Posey hit a double to plate Albritton. Both Johnson and Posey scored on a Morozova double to give the Blazers a 4-1 lead.

In the fifth, Littlefield singled and scored on a hit from O’Connor. In the seventh, Posey doubled and Littlefield walked. With two outs, O’Connor stepped to the plate and drilled a three-run home run over the left field fence to push the score to 8-1.

The Blazers scored three runs in the second inning to start the scoring in Game 2. Clare Wamsley walked and April Hutchens singled. Both players scored on a double by Albritton, who then scored on a single from Johnson.

West Alabama was able to finally get on the board with a run in the fifth inning, but the Blazers still held a 3-1 advantage. The Tigers could not score again, while Johnson scored for VSU in the seventh. She doubled and scored on a Morozova single to make the final score 4-1.

Valdosta State will look to keep rolling with a doubleheader at West Florida on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m.
