Bus problems leads to canceled game
UNADILLA — Mechanical problems with the bus carrying the Valdosta State baseball team to Carrollton for Friday evening’s Gulf South Conference series opener against West Georgia caused the cancelation of Friday’s game.
The teams will play a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m., today.
Lowndes falls to Colquitt County, 4-0
MOULTRIE — The Lowndes baseball team fell to Colquitt County, 4-0, Friday night. The Packers jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead, before adding two more runs in the fourth inning off starter Dylan Roberts.
Lowndes’ best opportunity for runs came in the sixth inning, but the Vikings left the bases loaded without any runners crossing home plate. The Packers added another run to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, before retiring the Vikings in the top seventh.
Lowndes is idle Tuesday, while Colquitt County faces Valdosta in Moultrie.
VSU tennis falls 5-4
PENSACOLA, Fla. — Valdosta State lost two matches to open a grueling weekend in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers fell to Grand Canyon, 5-4, and the Lady Blazers lost to Grand Canyon by the same score. The loss drops the men to 8-5 on the season while the women fall to 6-7.
Braves, Mets to air on SportsSouth
The final two games of the Atlanta Braves’ and New York Mets’ season opening series will air live on SportsSouth in Valdosta. The teams will play Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
