No. 1-ranked Blazers start GSC tourney with two wins

UPDATED 6:17 p.m. The top-ranked Valdosta State softballl defeated the West Georgia Lady Wolves 14-3 and the Delta State Ladt Statesmen 5-3 on the first day of the Gulf South Conference tournament in Southaven, Miss.
With the two wins, the Blazers improved to 45-3 on the season, and will advance to Saturday with a 2-0 record, and an opportunity to appear in Sunday’s conference championship game. The Blazers will face either rival Alabama-Huntsville in Saturday’s early game. The Lady Chargers defeated North Alabama 12-6 after beating Christian Brothers University 9-1 in the early game. The Blazers are 4-0 this season against Alabama-Huntsville.
As for Friday, the Blazers fell in an early 3-0 hole to West Georgia, before exploding for nine runs in the second inning; they never trailed to Delta State, which ended the Blazers’ 36-game winning streak last weekend in Valdosta.
