With the win, the Blazers improved to 23-16 on the season and 12-8 in GSC play, while West Alabama fell to 23-20 and 12-9 in league action.

The 20 runs marked the most runs by a Valdosta State club since the Blazers put up 20 runs against Southern Arkansas on May 7, 2010. VSU also tallied 21 hits in the game, including five off the bat of Christian Glisson, who also scored four runs and drove in five.

West Alabama scored a run in the bottom of the first. Chris Duncan reached on an infield single and a pair of balks moved him to third. Two batters later, D.J. Turo grounded out to VSU pitcher Nick Fogarty to score Duncan for a 1-0 UWA lead.

Valdosta State struck back for five runs in the top of the second inning, with four coming on a grand slam by Christian Glisson. With two outs in the frame, Austin Lawrence singled and scored when Steven Groves followed with a double to left in which Micah Reeves, the UWA left fielder, lost the ball off the bat. Buster Jackson and Marc Overstreet walked to load the bases. Then Glisson, who entered the at-bat 0 for 7 on the weekend, hit a 1-0 pitch over the wall in right center field for his ninth home run of the year and a 5-1 Blazer lead.

The Blazers got a solo home run from Bryant Hayman and a sacrifice fly by Groves in the third inning to push their advantage to 7-1.

Duncan hit a home run with Tyler Richburg on first in the bottom of the frame to cut the Blazer lead back to four runs, 7-3.

VSU added four more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, including Noelte’s third home run of the year, to push its lead to 15-3. The Blazers scored five more runs in the sixth inning, while UWA got a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.

Overstreet and Lawrence each finished the day with three hits. Noelte was 2 for 5 with five runs driven in. Hayman and Groves also finished the game with two hits for the Blazers.

Fogarty (1-0) pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed just eight hits and five runs while striking out seven. UWA starter Nick Bolleter (3-3) surrendered nine hits and eight earned runs in 3.1 innings.

Valdosta State returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m., when it travels to Columbus to face Columbus State.
