May 15, 1922 – Aug. 6, 2012

James Edward Kinsey, age 90, of Lake Park, Ga., passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in a fall. James was born on May 15, 1922 to the late Johnnie and Katie Kinsey. He was a veteran of World War II Army Air Corp. He was a guest on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Following his military career he worked as an Electrician/Instrument Maintenance Technician at Owens Illinois until he retired in 1984. James was a loving and responsible son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was known by some as “Jim” and to others he was lovingly referred to as “Poppi”. James was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Katie Kinsey; two brothers, Foy and Ray Kinsey and a sister, Julie Kinsey Langston.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mary Ellen Gay Kinsey of Lake Park; two daughters, Sandy K. O’Steen and Jan S. Kinsey, both of Lake Park, GA.; his brother, Ivy Kinsey (Doris) of Valdosta,  GA.; three grandchildren, Mandi O. Merterns  (Steve), Perry/Lake Park, GA., Dede O. Payne (Ryan), Perry/Lake Park, GA., Michael “Tony” DiMascio, Orlando, Lake Park, GA.; two great grandchildren, Matthew Presley Payne and Kaleb Daniel Payne; many extended family members; also surviving James is his beloved dog Candie.

Ruth Ann Strickland

Feb. 13, 1963 – July 30, 2012

Ruth Ann Strickland, age 49, of Echols County, Georgia, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Ruth was born Feb. 13, 1963 in Morristown, New Jersey to Henry and Gloria Hahn.

She moved to Echols County in 1981 from Arcadia, Florida and was a rural route mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and will always be remembered for the love she demonstrated to others and her quick wit. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Hahn.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Kerry Strickland, Echols County, Ga.; two sons, Ashley and Cody Strickland, both of Valdosta, Ga.; her mother, Gloria Hahn, Jasper, Fla.; two brothers, Richard Hahn, Echols County and Charles Hahn of Alabama; one sister, Cathy Smith, Englewood, Fla.; six grandchildren; her nephews and niece whom she considered her own, Christopher Hahn, Jessica Carter and Johnathan Carter; father-in-law, James Strickland; step father-in-law, Lee Tompkins.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 3, 2012 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla. Interment followed at Ruth’s Resting Cemetery.

Mary Evelyn Capan Harnage

April 17, 1927 – July 31, 2012

Mary Evelyn Capan Harnage, age 85, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Signature Health Care in Orange Park, Fla.

Mary was a native of Houston County, Alabama born on April 17, 1927 to the late Jake and Repsie Capan. She was a former resident of Jennings, Fla.

Mrs. Harnage was preceded in death by her husband, Leland T. Harnage and a brother, Dorman Capan.

Survivors include two sons, Gayward Hendry (Susan), Green Cove Springs, Fla. and Byron Hendry (Martha), Orange Park, Fla.; two daughters, Brenda Hamby, Lake Park, Ga. and Leah Luke, Griffin (Gene), Griffin, Ga.; one brother, Charles Capan (Beatrice), Greenville, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Nadine Capan, Panama City, Fla.; nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla. with Gene Luke officiating.  Interment followed at Greenville Cemetery.

A special thanks to Don Smith and his family of Auburndale, Fla. for their help and kindness.

Sampson Dye

July 31, 2012

Mr. Sampson Dye, a resident of Miami, Florida and a former resident of White Springs, Florida passed away July 31, 2012 in Homestead, Florida.

Mr. Sampson Dye is survived by his mother, Ms. Lee Ann Dye; two brothers, Samuel Newsome and Clarency Dye; four sisters, Ernestine Daniels, Coretha Lumpkin, Sadie Marshall and Julia Jones; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Sampson Dye will be Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in White Springs. Viewing and visitation for family and friends will be Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in White Springs from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Swift Creek Cemetery in White Springs.
