W.O. “Oz” Eubanks, 88, of Valdosta passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012 at his granddaughter’s (Michelle Copeland) home. He was born on Jan. 22, 1924 in Lucedale, Miss. to the late Hardy Napoleon & Mary Edith (Havard) Eubanks. Mr. Eubanks served his country proudly in the United States Army (1943 – 1946). During WWII. He served with Company H, 21ST Infantry, in the Pacific Theatre (Battles and campaigns at New Guinea and Philippines). His decorations and citations include: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal (Ribbon w/ two bronze stars), Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Eubanks worked with the Department of the Air Force (Brookley Air Field, Mobile, Ala. and Moody AFB, Valdosta, Ga.) for 30 years and retired from Civil Service in 1983. He was a faithful servant and loyal member of the congregation at Airport Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie R. Eubanks; a son, Johnny Wayne Eubanks; siblings, Boyd Eubanks, Gertrude Thigpen (Osburn), Clifton Eubanks (Eva), David Ray Eubanks, Dora Simmons (Troy), Forest Eubanks (Nita Mae), Melvin Eubanks (Hazel), Mary Rose Eubanks, Robert Stone Eubanks, Betty Arden (Dale), and Joanne Thornton (Herbert), and step granddaughter, Lindsey Hassenstab.
Mr. Eubanks truly loved his family and was survived by his wife, Ola Mae Young Eubanks of Valdosta, Ga.; daughter, Robin Boyd of Valdosta; grandchildren, Michelle Copeland (Burt), Donna Padgett (Adam), Danny Eubanks and John Eubanks; great grandchildren, Erin, Emmy, Grant, and Evan Copeland, Brandon and Brittany Kendricks, and David Eubanks; stepdaughters Rhonda Taylor (Coy) and Brenda Hassenstab (Russ); step grandchildren, Kevin Pittman (Jacey), Holly Vaughn (Ken), Melissa Dixon (Mark), Croshay Taylor, and Truett Taylor (Christie); step great grandchildren, Presley and Brock Pittman, Mary Dixon, Trinity, Kendall, and Cadence Taylor, and Audra/ Vaughn; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Robert Smith of Lucedale, Miss.; brother and sister-in-law, H.N. and Doris Eubanks of Lucedale, Miss.; sister-in-law, Arlene Eubanks; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 in Airport Church of Christ with burial to follow in Dasher Cemetery. Mr. Eubanks will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at the funeral home.
