A Suwannee County grand jury indicted the man they say murdered Jesse James Slone, 20, of 15467 US 129, McAlpin, on March 28. And, the grand jury didn’t stop there. It indicted the alleged killer on two other charges and also indicted his friend as a co-conspirator on all three charges.
Both Timothy Scott Thomas, 25, and Robert Blackwell Radford, 25, both of Lake City, remain in the Suwannee County Jail after the indictment, Thomas with no bond and Radford in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
The grand jury, meeting April 22 in Live Oak, handed down the indictment charging Thomas with the first-degree murder of Slone while armed with a firearm. In Florida, under the 10/20/life state statutes, if Thomas if found guilty, a judge has no choice but to sentence him to life in prison because he used a firearm.
Thomas was also indicted on an aggravated assault with a firearm charge for threatening Edward Johnson that night with the firearm. The indictment also charges Thomas with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the alleged use of the gun during the crime.
In all three indictments, the grand jury charges that Radford “did unlawfully aid, abet, counsel, hire or otherwise procure Timothy Scott Thomas the offense aforesaid, in manner and form aforesaid, to do and commit,” or in layman’s terms, Radford aided and abetted Thomas in the crimes. All three crimes are felonies.
Sloan was shot to death when he went to 5775 200th Street at about 8:45 p.m. March 28, according to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office reports. The reports say that Slone went to the residence to help his friend, who owed $20 to Radford, after Radford called the debtor and said he was coming to get his money or the debtor. When Slone arrived, he confronted Thomas, the report said, and Thomas shot Slone.
