Dorothy Sue Ezell

Dorothy Sue Ezell, 82, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.  Sue was born on Nov. 6, 1930 in Coffee County, Alabama, and lived most of her life in Live Oak, Fla.  She retired from the telephone company and spent most of her time attending as many of the Florida Gator football games as she could.  She truly bled orange and blue and loved her Gators with a passion.
She is survived by her two beloved sisters, Frances Alger and Margaret Lolley; and her children; Mike Pate (Rhoda) of Live Oak, Ricki Bennett (Gary) of Quincy and Becky Panebianco of Tallahassee.  She will also be missed by her 7 grandchildren:  Rick Cannon, Scott Pate, Misty Pate, Karen Ward, Kevin Pate, Steven Pate, Donovan Pate, Alicia Funk, and Caitlin Panebianco; as well as her 3 great grandchildren:  Brittany Siebert, Cameron Funk and Bruce Pate. She was preceded in death by her son, David Pate and her four brothers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Fla.

Thomas Arthur Herndon

Thomas “Tom” Herndon, age 87 of Live Oak Fla., passed away on Nov. 30, 2012.  Tom was born in Wauchula, Fla. and moved from Miami to Live Oak in 1970.  Tom served four years with the US Coast Guard and participated in several Asiatic-Pacific Campaigns. LST-24 earned four battle stars during WWII service.  He reenlisted for three more years and served on an icebreaker in Alaska. Near the end of his second tour he met his wife of sixty-three years, Joe-Ann (Jody) Thorpe Herndon in Miami Beach.   After military service he worked as a fireman for the El Cerrito California Fire Department and later as a conductor for the Florida East Coast Railroad, and the Panama Canal Zone Railroad. 
Tom was an accomplished musician and appeared with bluegrass and gospel musicians at fundraisers and festivals.  He belonged to the North Florida Bluegrass Association, the Suwannee River Bluegrass Association, and performed bluegrass music with the Suwannee River Five.  He is loved by his wife Jody, son Thomas V. Herndon and wife Billie (Baldwin), son Donald Herndon and wife April (Live Oak), daughter Colleene Herndon Scott (Live Oak), and sons Kenneth Douglas Herndon (Live Oak), and Tony Moody (Sarasota), his brothers Calvin Herndon (Wauchula) and Marvin Herndon (Haines City), Belinda Edwards Herndon, Jana Moody, Roxanne Shunk, several nieces, nephews, fourteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.

Walter L. Olive

Walter L. Olive, Sr., 80, of Live Oak, Fla. passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012.  Mr. Olive lived all of his life in Suwannee County where he was well known for his many different activities in the community.  He worked in the newspaper industry for over 27 years, including time at the Suwannee Democrat as Editor.  He also was the owner/operator of Badcock’s for 16 years, a Mason, a Rotarian and was of the Baptist faith. 
Mr. Olive is survived by his wife of 56 years:  Adele Olive, Live Oak, Fla.; son:  Gary Olive, Live Oak, Fla.; sister:  Marilyn Sapp, Live Oak, Fla.; two granddaughters:  Mandy Olive and Jessica Camejo; and many other family and dear friends. 
He was preceded in death by his son:  Lee Olive and brother:  Ray Olive. 
Services were held at Daniels Memorial Chapel, Live Oak, Fla. with Rev. Shawn Johnson officiating.  Interment followed in Pine Level Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
