VALDOSTA — Lowndes County and the City of Valdosta Public Works Departments invite all city and county residents to participate in a free scrap tire recycling event. This initiative will run weekdays from Monday, Dec. 9, through Friday, Dec. 20, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lowndes County Public Works facility, located at 550 Gil Harbin Industrial Blvd.

Residents are encouraged to drop off unwanted tires for proper disposal. The program accepts only regular car and truck tires that are off the rim. Tractor and semi-truck tires will not be accepted, and the event is not open to businesses. Each household may dispose of up to 200 tires.

The scrap tire recycling program began in 2018 after Public Works staff observed an increase in the number of discarded tires in ditches and along the right-of-way throughout Lowndes County. This initiative provides residents with a responsible and convenient disposal option, contributing to cleaner neighborhoods and protecting the environment in Valdosta and Lowndes County.
