Drug seizure largest this year

VALDOSTA — A Brooklyn, N.Y., man was charged with federal drug trafficking Tuesday after Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputies discovered 104.2 pounds of marijuana in a rented Suzuki sport utility vehicle he was driving to Florida.

Ciawyn D. Cust, 23, was pulled over at 2:02 p.m. at the 12-mile marker of Interstate 75 for speeding before consenting to a search of his vehicle, according to Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The marijuana reportedly was wrapped in 24 clear plastic packages stuffed into two black, nylon bags in the the back hatch of the vehicle.

Officials estimate the marijuana is worth $167,680.

“It’s the largest one this year so far,” said Capt. J.D. Yeager, head of the sheriff’s office drug unit, speaking of marijuana seizures.
