VALDOSTA — Georgia State Patrol officials are expecting reduced traffic on the interstate because Independence Day is on a Wednesday this year, but they are concerned about accidents on local roads.

Officials are predicting 694 traffic crashes, 299 injuries and 11 deaths over the 30-hour period that begins at 6 tonight and ends at midnight Wednesday.

“Traffic in the normal sense of the word won’t be what you would see in a typical holiday period,” said Gordy Wright, Georgia State Patrol spokesman.
