Valdosta State pitched its fourth shutout of the year in a 2-0 win in game one before falling to Wayne State 2-1 in game two of a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Billy Grant Field Sunday afternoon.

 In the first game, Valdosta State (7-4) got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning as Nick Rodda hit a one-out double to left-center and scored two batters later when Ryan McClellan singled to left to give VSU a 1-0 lead.

 The Blazers pushed their advantage to two runs in the sixth inning as Matthew Fears greeted Warrior relief pitcher David Frederick with a double to the wall in right. A sacrifice bunt by Rodda moved Fears to third and Hunter Thompson hit a sacrifice fly to score the run for a 2-0 VSU advantage.

 Jeremy Holcomb improved to 3-0 in game one as he allowed just three hits and three walks while also striking out three in 7.0 innings of work. Dom DeMasi allowed only one base runner over the final two innings to earn his second save of the year.

 Daniel Hoover, Fears and Rodda all had two hits each in the first game to lead Valdosta State offensively.

 The Blazers also got on the board first in game two as they plated a run in the second inning. Fears opened the VSU half of the second with a double and moved to third as Rodda singled. Jamie McMillan followed with a base hit to plate Fears for a 1-0 Valdosta State lead.

 Wayne State (2-1) evened the game in the fourth as Chris Gebara singled. Eric Cunningham followed with a hit to left to move Gebara to third while an error in the outfield on the play allowed him to score.

 Cunningham drove home the winning run in the sixth inning as his base hit scored Brad Guenther, who had singled and stole second.

 Josh Mann fell to 0-1 as he allowed four hits two runs, one earned, in a complete game.

 Valdosta State returns to action Tuesday at 5 p.m. when it visits Albany State.
