Suwannee High School students Fallon Ratliff and Amber Moffat have earned a position on the Georgia National High School Rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Rock Springs, Wyoming, July 14-20 to compete at the 65th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR).
Fallon is a junior at SHS where she is on the varsity volleyball team, an FFA member and shows swine in the livestock show and sale. She competed in SJRA for three years and Georgia High School Rodeo for two years. Fallon is the daughter of Dale and Kay Ratliff of Live Oak. She enjoys rodeoing every weekend with her family and horses, where she competes in barrel racing and pole bending. Fallon plans to finish up her high school career while rodeoing, then compete in college.
Amber is involved in the BETA Club and National Honor Society at SHS. She is the daughter of Jack and Patty Moffat of Live Oak. Amber has competed in Georgia Junior/High School Rodeo Association for the past five years. Her events are barrels, poles, goats and breakaway. Amber is also a member of SJRA, Live Oak and Branford riding club, NBHA FL08 and Professional Cowboy Association. Amber’s future plans are to continue her education at a rodeo college.
Featuring more than 1,500 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian Provinces and Australia, the NHSFR is the world’s largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, NHSFR contestants will also be competing for more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named an NHSFR National Champion. To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top 20 – based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds – to advance to Saturday evening’s final round. National champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.
The Saturday championship performance will be televised nationally as a part of the Cinch Town Tour telecast series on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each NHSFR performance will also air online at NHSRATV.com, powered by iHigh.com. Performance times are 7 p.m. on July 14, and 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day thereafter.
