Henry Norman Cone
Feb. 8, 1933 – May 22, 2014
Henry Norman Cone, 81, of Valdosta died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home on the Madison Highway. He was born on Feb. 8, 1933 to the late Jessie Dallas and Olivia Hampton Cone. Mr. Cone was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Cassie Morris Cone.
He is survived by his two children and their spouses, Cathy and Bill Malone of Valdosta and Gary and Sylvia Cone of Jennings, Fla.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Jennifer Malone of Valdosta; Marcus Henry Malone of Spanish Fort, AL; Dusty and Lydia Cone of Lake Park, GA; Danielle and Kyle Hall, Ethan and Anna Cone, all of Jennings, Fla.; four great grandchildren, Karli and Kherington Malone of Valdosta; Colton and Braxton Hall of Jennings, Fla.; one brother and sister- in- law, Kelly and Ingrid Cone of Kinston, AL; one sister, Patsy Turner of Valdosta; sisters-in-law, Juanita Johnson of Valdosta and Joyce Morris of Bayonet Point, Fla.; brother- in- law and sister- in- law, Al and Joyce Morris of Bristol, VA; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis Cone and J. D. Cone of Valdosta and Talmadge Cone of Waverly, TN.
After graduating from Clyattville High School in 1951, Mr. Cone served his country in the United States Air Force. During the Korean War, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He later earned an electrical engineering degree and was employed for over 47 years as an electrical engineer, supervisor, and instructor in both the Electrical and Instrument Department and Process Control Department of Packaging Corporation of America.
Compassionate and caring, he was known for his gentleness, vibrant smile, positive attitude, and servant heart. He enjoyed farming and farm animals. As a master woodworker, he built both his own homes and crafted furniture for family and friends. He also enjoyed restoring classic cars and tractors.
Mr. Cone loved the Lord and was baptized into Christ in 1956. He was a member of the Airport Church of Christ where he served as a Men’s Bible Class Teacher.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 25, 2014 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. John Klimko officiating. Burial followed in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family received friends on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Ethel Vann
May 21, 2014
Ethel Vann 87, Live Oak, Fla. passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. The life long resident of Suwannee County was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two daughters: Jean (Ed) Brown, Live Oak, Fla., Pat Strawder, Live Oak, Fla.; one son: Dennis (Pam) Vann, Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren: Cindy (Kenny) Crosby, Bill (Lori) Stubbs, Todd Stubbs, Michelle (Matt) Woods, Mitchell (Kim) Vann, Matthew (Emily) Vann; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24 at Daniels Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Richardson officiating. Interment followed in O’Brien Cemetery.

Dorothy A. Conniff

Dorothy A. Conniff, 82, of Live Oak, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 after a short illness
Born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma she moved to Key West before settling in the Miami area. In 1973 she moved to Live Oak with her family. She worked at the Suwannee county canning center, retired from the Suwannee River Economic Counsel in 1994 and was of Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayburn Conniff, and two sons Jeff Conniff and Steve Conniff. She is survived by, two sons: David Conniff and Chris (Belinda) Conniff. five grandchildren: Wayne, Lee, Lacey, Evan, Christina. Four great grandchildren: Becky, Nicky, Aj, Zadie. And one great great grandchild Jaclynn.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday May 28, 2014 at the Oak Hill Cemetery with Mr. Bob Fletcher officiating.

Hazel D. Ross
Feb. 19, 1920 – May 23, 2014
Hazel Ross, 94, died on May 23, 2014 at Live Oak, Florida. Hazel D. Baker was born in Live Oak, Fla. on Feb. 19, 1920, the daughter of Vancie and Mary (Hart) Baker. She graduated from Suwannee County High School in 1939 and then completed a National Youth Administration training course in commercial art and design at Camp Roosevelt in Ocala, Fla. While working as a medical assistant in Gainesville, Fla. she met Oliver H. Ross, a soldier stationed at nearby Camp Blanding. They were married on June 23, 1943. After the end of World War II, they moved to the Ross family farm in Rockwell City, IA. In 1968, Hazel earned her degree as a licensed practical nurse and worked for 10 years at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, IA. After her husband’s death in 1988, Hazel returned to Live Oak.
Hazel is survived by her children: Eugene Ross, Eileen Newhouse, Phillip & Debra Ross; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings: Myrle Gray, Leyron Baker, Vormel Phillips, Von Erie & Elston Williams. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, her son Stephen, and her sister Myrtle Wall.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 28 at 11a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, Live Oak, Fla. Visitation will be held preceding the service, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28. Hazel will be interred next to her husband at Lake Creek Cemetery in Calhoun County, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Fund or Westwood Baptist Church.
