Valdosta

Wilbur Carol Bragg

VALDOSTA — Wilbur Carol Bragg, 71, of Valdosta, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center.

The Screven County native was a United States Air Force Vietnam veteran who retired as a tech sergeant after 22 years. He was also retired from being the head school bus mechanic with the Valdosta Board of Education. He was a member of Anitoch Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marlene Bragg.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean Burke Bragg; four sons, Wilbur Carol Bragg II of Atlanta, James Albert Bragg, Stephen Matthew Bragg and David Alan Bragg of Valdosta; four sisters, Betty B. Lee, Dorothe B. Garrett, Jacquelyn B. Hill and Althea Bragg, all of Sylvania; one brother, Carlos Bragg of Sylvania; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Chapel with the Rev. Don Scarborough and Mr. Emory Alloways officiating. Interment was at the Screven County Memorial Cemetery. — Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.



Quitman

Reba Brown Collins

QUITMAN — Reba Brown Collins, 88, of Quitman, passed away Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at the Presbyterian Home after a lengthy illness.

She was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Brooks County to the late John Hansel and Lula Frances Humphrey Gaskin. She was a retired ward clerk for the Brooks County Hospital, where she worked for 30 years, and a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon Collins of Quitman; two sisters, Penny Miller and Jewel Wood of Tallahassee, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Charlotte Collins and Christine Collins of Quitman and Dorothy Shaw of Leesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at 2 p.m., in the Maxwell-Miller chapel with Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. — Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home.



Homerville

Virginia Ruth Joyce Douglas

HOMERVILLE — Mrs. Virginia Ruth Joyce Douglas, 77, passed away Thursday morning in the Hospice House in LaGrange following a brief illness.

A native of Lakeland, she has lived most of her life in Homerville. She is the daugther of Mrs. Ruth Duehring of Valdosta and the late George Joyce and the widow of Willie D. Douglas. She was a homemaker and member of the New Pine Grove Congregational Methodist Church.

Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and George Hollis of LaGrange; two sons and daughter-in-law, Bill and Drenee Douglas of Houston, Texas, and Ricky Douglas of Homerville; two sisters, Mary Nell Griffin of Crystal River, Fla., and Maxine Chaney of Valdosta; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services for Mrs. Douglas will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at noon from the Homerville Congregational Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery.

Mrs. Douglas will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Monday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.. She will be carried to the church one hour prior to the services. — Roundtree Funeral Home.



Quitman

Jared Allen Goff

QUITMAN — Jared Allen Goff, 23, of Quitman, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at the Brooks County ER as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A lifelong resident of Brooks County, he was the son of Kenneth Allen and Karen Owens Goff. He was a carpenter and a member of the First Baptist Church of Quitman.

He is survived by his parents, Bill and Karen Wheeler of Quitman; two brothers, Brantley and Jack Wheeler of Quitman; maternal grandparents, Mary and Dan Strickland of Quitman; three uncles, Ronald Meadows and William Owens of Quitman and Chris Owens of Jennings, Fla.; and an aunt, Beth Owens of Quitman.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Quitman with the Rev. Marty Carnes officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
