MADISON, Fla. — Luther Robert Andrews Jr., 66, of Madison, Fla. died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Shands of Gainesville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at First United Methodist Church in Madison. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel in Madison. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery in Madison County. Donations may be made to your favorite charity. He was a lifelong resident of Madison. He was a retired Independent Insurance Agent and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Madison. He is survived by his wife, Jenny Andrews of Madison; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Mike Fleming of Greensboro, N.C., Lynne and Doug Brown, Robin and Steve Odiorne, all of Madison; eight grandchildren, Rebecca and Britt Fleming, Drew, Aaron, and Zack Brown, Adam, Hannah and Samuel Odiorne. — Beggs Funeral Home, Madison, Fla.



William A. Holland

GROOVERVILLE — William A. Holland, 86, of Grooverville, went home with the Lord Friday, Nov. 29, 2002. Bill was born in Holland Va. He served as an Army intelligence officer during World War II after surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Bill retired in 1970 as a contracts administrator with the Department of Defense. He is survived by his wife, Laura A. Holland; his five children, Bill Jr., Richard, Ronald, David and Ann; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson Street in Boston. Emogene Akridge Odom

NASHVILLE — Emogene Akridge Odom, 65, of Nashville died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Berrien Nursing Center. She was born on Sept. 27, 1937, in Berrien County to the late Foster and Ila Lee Barnard Akridge. She was a homemaker. Ms. Odom is preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith who died in 1984. She is survived by three daughters, Rose Sutton, Nashville, Diane Washington, Atlanta, Jane Fallin, Milledgeville; two sons, Robert Smith, Nashville, Tommy Smith, Adel; 14 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; two sisters, Jimmie Lee Rowan, Nashville, Becky Dawdy, Ray City; and one brother, Billy Akridge of Texas. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Lawson officiating. Wendell Bernard Porter

VALDOSTA — Wendell Bernard Porter, 74, of Valdosta, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Heritage House Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Cairo, Ga. on Sept. 9, 1928, to the late Rev. A.J. and Devera Porter. He was a fire chief, a policeman, wholesale car dealer, a veteran in the Army Air Corps and attended Forrest Street Church of God. He was a strong man of his word whose family meant the world to him, always strived for the best in everything and never turned away anyone in need. Survivors are his wife, Doris Porter; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Randy Courson, Jesup, Donna and David Nolan, Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and Susan Porter, Valdosta, Don and Gina Porter, Ray City, Aaron Porter, Ray City, Weyman Porter, Thomasville, Ken Porter, Atlanta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lavenia and Chuck Harrell, Phoenix, Ariz., Betty Lewis, Douglas, Martha and John Miller, Margate, Fla., Mary and Alton Corbett, Lake City, Fla.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frazier and Hiawatha Porter, West Green, Ga., Linwood and Yvonne Porter, Valdosta; grandchildren, Morgan and Evan Courson, Amber and Andy Porter, Jamie and Jason Porter Carlynn, Olivia and Greg Porter, David Nolan and Tonya Bridges; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Porter and Joseph Carl Porter; numerous nieces and nephews. VALDOSTA — Carolyn S. West, 57, died on Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at her home in Valdosta. Daughter of the late Jarmen Asbury, Sr. and Georgia Catherine Strickland Smith, she was born on Dec. 9, 1944, in Elizabeth City, N.C. Mrs. West was retired from the State of Georgia, attended First Baptist Church, was a member of the order of the Eastern Star and the Elks Auxiliary. With her husband, she was founder and owner of The Medicine Man’s Corner in Remerton. Survivors include her husband, Ted F. West of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law, Ted F. II and Sonya West of Memphis, Tenn.; daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon L. And Robby Norris, Christy and Randy Hart, all of Valdosta; grandchildren, Ted F. “Trey” West III of Valdosta, Cal Thomas West, Devon West and Caroline West of Memphis, Dawson Garrett Norris of Valdosta; sister, Patsy Best of Goldsboro, N.C.; brothers, Jarman A. Hattie Miranda King Wiggins

VALDOSTA – Hattie Miranda King Wiggins, 87, of Valdosta, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in Lakeland. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Clayton Davis will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robby Miller, Justin Miller, Shean Miller, Jason Wiggins, Jerry Hendley, Stefan Wiggins, Michael Steinmeyer and David Wiggins. The family will receive friends from 7- 9 p.m. tonight at Bowen-Donaldson. Born Jan. 23, 1915, in Tift County, Mrs. Wiggins was the daughter of Matthew Jackson King and Dona Arnold King, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Homer David Wiggins, who died in 1997, and by three brothers and two sisters. She was a retired school lunchroom worker and a member of St. Luke Baptist Church.
