Suwannee volleyball loses on the road

The SHS volleyball team dropped two matches this week on the road. The first match was on Tuesday, Sept. 9 against Florida High in Gainesville. The girls played two matches. IN the first match, Suwannee lost all three games, 10-25, 8-25 and 5-25. In the second match the SHS Lady Dogs lost all three games again but did better overall. They lost 5-25, 20-25, 22-25.
Heather Benson, Kyla Serrona and Kortney Cherry were the top players in the first set of games. Benson had two service points and one assist. Serrona had two service points and one ace. Cherry had two service points and one ace. Sharon Jelks scored one service point and had one assist and Heather LeBlanc had one service point and one kill.
In the second set of games the top scorers for Suwannee were Lindsey Gaskins, Marcella Walker, Benson, Serrona, Cherry, Nereyda Pecina and Jelks.
Gaskins scored nine service points, three aces and had one kill. Walker had six service points and three kills. Benson had three service points, three aces and seven blocks. Serrona had three service points and one dink. Cherry had three service points, one kill, one ace and one assist. Pecina had two service points and three assists. Jelks had three assists and two kills. Heather LeBlanc also contributed with one service point and one assist.
Suwannee took on Wakulla in Wakulla on Thursday night. Suwannee lost both of these games. In the first match Suwannee lost 9-25, 15-25 and 15-25. IN the second match they lost 10-25, 19-25 and then 14-25.
In the first match the top players were Marcella Walker and Sharon Jelks with help from Serrona, Benson, Gaskins, Pecina, LeBlanc and Cherry.
Walker had six service points, one kill, one ace and one assist. Jelks had two service points, three kills and two aces.
In the second match the top players were Marcella Walker and Heather Benson. Walker had three kills and Benson had five service points, two aces, six assists and one dink.
Helping out was LeBlanc with three service points, two aces and one kill, Sharon Jelks with three service points, one kill, one block and one assist. Kortney Cherry had three service points, one assist and one block.
The JV Lady Dogs lost 15-25 and 11-25 against Florida High and lost against Wakulla 20-25 and 20-25.
Look for Lady Dog volleyball at home against Lafayette on Sept. 23. The varsity takes the court at 2 p.m. and the JV will play at 3 p.m. The Lady Dogs will also be home against Taylor County on Sept. 25. Volleyball action begins at 5 p.m. with the JV and the varsity Lady Dogs hit the court at 6 p.m. go Lady Dogs!
