Four people have been charged in a burglary where two golf carts were stolen from a car dealership and used in the Live Oak Cemetery to run over several graves.
Those charged include Duane William Morgan, 20, 14232 47th Road, Wellborn, two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old-old. Each defendant is charged with several counts of burglary, vehicle burglary and theft, according to the LOPD.
The case began Nov. 23 when a burglary was reported at Walt’s Live Oak Ford. In addition to taking items from the dealership, the intruders also took two golf carts, which were driven next door to the Live Oak Cemetery where several graves were damaged as the golf carts were driven over a large portion of the cemetery, according to LOPD. The golf carts were recovered later that day.
On Nov. 29, it was discovered a vehicle at the dealership had been broken into. On Dec. 16, it was discovered that yet another vehicle at the dealership had also been burglarized, LOPD said.
An investigation by Detectives Ron Shaw and Chuck Tompkins resulted in the four individuals being charged with those crimes. Investigations of other crimes are continuing and more charges may be forthcoming, LOPD said.
