Daniel DeSilva

OCALA, Fla. — Daniel DeSilva, 77, of Ocala, died on Jan. 19, 2002, at Ocala Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bermuda and came to Ocala in 1995 from Massachusetts. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Seventh Day Adventist. He was also a truck driver. He is survived by his stepmother, Kathleen DeSilva of Valdosta; brother, Ben DeSilva, Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Lorraine DeSilva of Swanzy, Mass., and Roseland Story of Valdosta. Hardy B. Douglas

VALDOSTA — Hardy B. Douglas, 80, died on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at his home in Valdosta. Born in Clinch County, the son of the late James Leonard and Sarah Debbie Shavers Douglas, he had made his home in Valdosta since 1954. Mr. Douglas was a Navy veteran of WWII. He was associated with Owens Illinois for more than 30 years and was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and was a Mason with the St. John Lodge. Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Taylor Douglas. Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Ernie Reid of Orange Park, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Linda Douglas of Crystal River, Fla., Johnny and Cindy Douglas of Reynolds; eight grandchildren, Ashley Reid, Laura Reid Hibberts, Michael, Andy, Matthew, Chad, Charlie and Ginny Douglas; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dollie Maine of Homerville, Leitha Smith and Louise Adams of PineBluff, Ark.; two brothers, S.T. Douglas and Roy Douglas of Homerville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Daniel and the Rev. Stephen Carr will officiate. Betty M. Flythe

VALDSOTA — Betty M. Flythe, 76, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Lowndes County on Nov. 20, 1925, to the late Mr. and Mrs. James P. McLeod. Mrs. Flythe was associated with Southern Bell for 31 years and the Telephone Pioneers. She was a member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Louie C. Flythe; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bobby Dasher; son and daughter-in-law, Louie and Sharon Flythe; grandchildren, Deann and Jim Scruggs, Haley Flythe, all of Valdosta. She was preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. McLeod and Fred McLeod, and one sister, Beulah Stephenson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Forrest Chapman and John Klimko officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Atwill Metts

NASHVILLE — Atwill Metts, 85, of Nashville, died on Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Lowndes County. She was born on Nov. 4, 1916, in Berrien County to George and Rebecca Webb Griffin. She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Paron Primitive Baptist Church. She was the widow of Grover Wilson Metts who died in 1969. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Jowers of St. Simons Island and Cathy Gaskins of Nashville; four grandsons, Chad Gaskins, Bobby Gaskins Jr., Ramie Jowers, Rad Jowers; one granddaughter, Terrolyn Foster; three great-granddaughters, Stevie Gaskins, McKinley Gaskins, Hallie Jowers; two great-grandsons, Lane Jowers, Will Gaskins; three sisters Florie Hesters, Nashville, Doris Jernigan, Albany, Mellie Ussery of Louisiana; three brothers, George Griffin of Nashville, Ebb Griffin, Albany, and Mitchell Griffin of Sylvester. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Paron Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Charles Tyson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Paron Cemetery. Levy Odom

JASPER, Fla. — Levy Odom, 89, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away early Wednesday, Jan. 23, 200





2, at the home of his daughter following a lengthy illness. The Quitman native had lived in Arcadia for five years. He was a former resident of Yulee, Fla., and Jasper. He worked for many years in Jasper at the saw mill and feed mill and was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church. Mr. Odom was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Odom, and a son, Julius Franklin Odom. Survivors include three daughters, Martha Bohannan, Mildred Hooks and Margaret Ramsey, all of Arcadia; two sisters, Gertrude Reynolds, Jasper, and Ruby Vaughn, Tampa, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper. Interment will follow in Hebron Cemetery near Jasper. Wallace Selph

JENNINGS, Fla. — Wallace Selph, 80, of Jennings, passed away early Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Trinity Community Hospital in Jasper, Fla. The Hamilton County native was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, was a retired farmer and a member of New Hope Baptist Church near Jennings. Mr. Selph was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda K. Selph. Survivors include his wife, Helen King Selph of Jennings; one son, Mike Selph (Anita), Jennings; one daughter, Marla Rowe (Cecil), Jasper; three brothers, Marvin Selph, Jasper, Lawrence Selph, Montgomery, Ala., and H.S. Selph, Lake City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Samantha Norris, Wallace L. “Buster” Selph and Amber Rowe; one great-grandson, Jackson Norris. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Ralph Nathan Wilson

HOMERVILLE — Ralph Nathan Wilson, 25, of Homerville, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, Douglas. A native of Clinch County, he had lived in Douglas the last two months. He was an electrician for Malphus Electric Contracting in Douglas. Survivors are his wife, Jennifer Harper Wilson, Douglas; two daughters, Rebecca Lynn Wilson and Florence Anita Wilson, both of Douglas; his father and stepmother, Ralph and Eloise Wilson, Homerville; his mother and stepfather, Anita and Earl Strickland, Homerville; two sisters, Julie Bennett, Homerville, and Jennifer Wilson, Douglas; one brother, Ethan Strickland, Homerville; two stepsisters, Julie Davis, Homerville, and Diana Corbitt, Douglas; one stepbrother, Danny Corbitt, Homerville; maternal grandmother, Virginia Mathis, Homerville; paternal grandmother, Mary Etta Wilson, Homerville; and several other relatives. Funeral services for Mr. Wilson will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lang Memorial Baptist Church near Homerville. Burial will be in Lang Cemetery.
