A Branford man spent the weekend in the Suwannee County Jail after he allegedly was stopped while driving under the influence and after a deputy arrested him, allegedly threatening to get the deputy and his family when he got out of jail. Still not satisfied, the deputy said the man then tried to kick the windows out of the patrol car.

Raymond E. Higginbotham, 47, 3119 230th Street, Branford, was taken to the jail where he was charged with DUI, corruption by threat and resisting arrest without violence.

Suwannee County Deputy Lee Willis made the arrest after he was dispatched to the area of US 129 and CR 247 Nov. 6 at about 5:55 p.m. Willis located and stopped a blue Chevrolet van where he observed Higginbotham, who appeared to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Willis said Higginbotham was unable to successfully complete a series of field sobriety tests.

While checking Higginbotham’s driver’s license, it was also discovered there were outstanding warrants for Higginbotham from Tennessee for failure to appear in court on charges of reckless endangerment, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Higginbotham was transported to the Suwannee County Jail, where his bond was set at $30,000. He was released Nov. 8 after posting bond.
