Daniel “Danny” Raymond Johnson

Daniel “Danny” Raymond Johnson died late Saturday afternoon November 22, 2014 at his home in Jennings, Florida. He was surrounded at his passing by his family and friends. Danny was born in Valdosta, Georgia on June 7, 1952. He was the youngest child of the union between his father the late Allen S. Johnson and recently deceased mother, Elizabeth Webb Johnson. Danny attended Jennings schools and graduated from Georgia Christian School in Dasher, Georgia. He went to Madison Junior College and graduated from Florida State University in December 1975 with a degree in Criminal Justice. While at FSU he met and married Shirley Luther resulting in the birth of two sons, Steven and Matthew.

Danny was employed by the Parole Division of the Florida Department of Corrections for many years and also worked closely with the Judges of the North Florida Judicial Circuit. He retired due to illness while serving as the Hamilton County Coordinator in September of 2013.Danny was active in the needs of the City of Jennings where he served as Mayor for approximately 25 years, this was a non-paid position. He was known for his ability to settle unpopular issues and as a peacemaker.  Danny loved his church and was a member of Hebron Primitive Baptist Church but also attended several other churches over the years. He was the Treasurer of the Cemetery Fund at Hebron Church. He loved woods of North Florida and enjoyed riding the back-roads with his dogs, Holly, Milo and Molly.

Danny is survived by his wife, Susan McCall Johnson who he married on September 10, 1999; his two sons, Steven Johnson (Melanie) and Matthew Johnson (Kelly); two grandchildren, Landon and Annabelle and one grandchild “on the way”.  Also surviving are two brothers, Freddie Johnson (Ronnie) and Frank Johnson (Brenda); his sister, Elaine McCulley (Tommy) and numerous nephews and a niece.  Danny was also a loving stepfather to Roxanne Eddy (Chris), Andres Perez (Summer) and Renee Byrd (James); and step grandfather to Alex, Aden and Ansley.

Danny will be remembered for his fairness, kindness, thoughtfulness and love and respect for others.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 24, 2014 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Elder Gordon Smith officiating, assisted by Elder Marshall Thomas. Interment will follow at Sassers Landing Cemetery near Jennings.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday between the hours of 12:00-2:00 p.m.
