Mayo Correctional Institute Sgt. and Lafayette County resident Scott Walker has been promoted to the position of Correctional Office Lieutenant at Mayo C. I. Lt. Walker brings 18 years of varied corrections experience. Upon his promotion he ran the institution confinement unit during the day. Staff at the facility believe Lt. Walker will make an excellent supervisor. He will be a shift supervisor responsible for all security functions during his shift. Warden Witt stated, “Lt. Walker has prepared himself for this position and we believe he has the tools needed to succeed. A shift supervisor runs the shift at all times and is responsible for all prison operations at night, on weekends, and holidays. This is a large responsibility.”
Mayo Correctional Institution announces the retirement of Sergeant Phil Hart. Sgt. Hart joined the Department of Corrections as a correctional officer in 1984, and was promoted to correctional officer sergeant in 1990. Sgt. Hart was the property sergeant when he retired, June 30, 2003. Sgt. Hart was also an instructor for North Florida Community College. Sgt. Hart was a dedicated and hard working employee. Mayo Correctional Institution congratulates and wishes Sgt. Hart good luck in the future.
Mayo Correctional Institution’s Warden Witt presented Captain Leroy Roberts with a 25-year Distinguished Service Pin. Captain Roberts has promoted through the security ranks at Cross City Correctional Institutional and Mayo Correctional Institution to his current level. Captain Roberts is a resident of Lafayette County. The staff at Mayo C.I. asks the community to join them in recognizing his accomplishments.
