VALDOSTA — A Valdosta native is making a name for himself in the world of country music.

David McArthur was born in Goldsboro, N.C., to parents Don and Sara McArthur, who moved the family to Valdosta when David was 4 years old. His household raised him on homegrown Southern values, including a deep connection with the Lord.

Growing up in Valdosta, he went through the Lowndes County School System. He joined Cub Scouts at Pine Grove School and earned the rank of Eagle Scout with the BSA troop at Moody Air Force Base.

He began playing trumpet at Hahira Middle School and played in the Georgia Bridgemen Band at Lowndes High School. He served as drum major for two years.

His love of music came as no surprise to his parents.

His mother said, “He can pick up a piece of paper and play it. Straws and pipes run a close second.”

He then took five years of piano lessons to broaden his musical talents and taught himself to play the guitar. He began writing and playing Christian music and playing in the First Baptist Church Tifton praise band.

Adding further to his list of musical talents, David sings, plays bass guitar, great highland bagpipes, bodhran and penny whistle.

After attending the University of Florida, David joined the Marine Corps and met his wife, Jill, while stationed at NAS Pensacola. David wrote a special song for his bride titled “Once and for All” that he sang to her.

Together almost 19 years, the couple has three children: Will, Kemp and Claire, two of whom inherited their father’s love of music and have taken to playing violin and cello.

The family currently lives in Kentucky where David plays bass guitar at his local church.

David also records music that is inspired by his life, family, God and the entire Southern experience. As David says, his latest EP, “Country Beautiful,” is “music that won’t embarrass your mama.”

His deep country voice gives a true Southern feel with wholesome lyrics. David provides a family-friendly EP that also showcases his singing voice and musical talents.

The songs are “Country Beautiful,” “Summer Memory,” “Pay Day,” “Speak-a-my-Language,” “Belle of the Ball,” and “One More Time.”
