VALDOSTA — Radney Plumbing, Inc. may be diving into something bigger, but the service will stay the same.

The 39 year old plumbing company, which serves commercial, industrial and residential customers, has joined up with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, a plumbing services company, that is very selective in the franchises it selects. Three percent of companies are franchised and 1 percent of certified technicians are accepted by the company.

“We are very proud that Benjamin Franklin decided we would be a great investment,” Tommy Radney, owner of Radney Plumbing, said. “What this means is a greater commitment to customer service.”

Radney said the company, created in 2000, approached him for the franchise. Radney’s father started Radney’s Plumbing in 1965 and Radney began working in the business in 1972.

“It’s been a family affair, and I’ve enjoyed being able to be a part of this business,” Radney said.

Radney said his business has a lot of strict guidelines for its 35 employees. All of the technicians must have a clean wardrobe, must be on time, clean up for themselves and provide a pleasant atmosphere for the customer.

“When people think of plumbers, they think of these overweight, dirty guys with sagging pants who stiff customers,” Radney said. “We are not that type of company. We want to be the first people you call because we are fair, and because we present ourselves well.”

Radney said his technicians who visit homes will quote a price after looking at a problem, and once that price has been set, it stays.

“Once we tell you something costs a certain amount, no matter how much overtime, or if there are some unforeseen problems, that price is concrete,” Radney said. “Benjamin Franklin has a five level pricing system set in stone. Our customers will not be surprised by costs.”

Radney also said when a customer sets an appointment, if the technician is not there by the time set, every minute he or she is late, the company will pay the customer $5 per minute.

Radney Plumbing will retain its name with its industrial and commercial clients, but will use the Benjamin Franklin name with its residential business.

“We want our customers to feel good about us, and we believe Benjamin Franklin will help us do that,” Radney said.

Radney Plumbing has also won a Declaration of Service Excellence from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.

“I am so proud of this award, but even more proud that our franchise company sees us as a shining example,” Radney said..
