VALDOSTA – South Georgia Medical Center, Kohl’s Department Store, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and Safe Kids Lowndes County will be hosting Bike Smart — a bike safety and bike rodeo program Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in SGMC’s Surgery Center parking lot. This event is for children ages 5-12.

Children will receive hands-on instruction in bike safety and learn how to wear a bike helmet properly. Education will also be provided on bike laws and street safety. Children who participate should bring their bike to the event. They will receive a fitted bike helmet, water bottle, t-shirt, and a chance to win a bike.

Registration is required and can be completed by calling 229.333.1071.

Sponsored by Kohl’s department stores nationwide, the Kohl’s Cares program affords shoppers in each of its stores the opportunity to purchase “lovable, huggable plush toys” and books for $5 each. The profit from these sales goes to benefit local hospital partners such as South Georgia Medical Center. Funding for Bike Smart comes from the sale of those items.

“We are excited to partner with Kohl’s, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and Safe Kids Lowndes County to host this fun and educational event for the children in our community,” said Elizabeth Vickers, SGMC’s Foundation Director.
