VALDOSTA – The old Pine Grove Elementary School campus could be leased to Highland Christian Academy.

According to Lowndes County Superintendent of Schools Wes Taylor, Highland has been in multiple discussions with Lowndes County Schools about leasing the property.

While the board did not approve a final lease of the property Monday, the BOE authorized Taylor and other officials to move forward with working on a formal proposal for the lease.

Following an executive session, the board approved four lists of employee changes — three regarding new hires, retirements and resignations and one regarding in-system transfers. The lists were publicly available after the executive session and were displayed on the screen for anyone in attendance to see.

Discussions about property and legal matters were also mentioned on the agenda for executive session, but county officials did not return calls requesting details.

The board cancelled a contract with Play On Sports for video streaming to move forward with a contract with the Education Sports Entertainment network, joining more than 300 schools in Georgia using the service.

According to LCS officials, the network is designed to work with the Georgia A/V Technology grant awarded to Lowndes High School and three Lowndes middle schools. Students can upload programs and other videos to ESE and enter competitions through the Student Television Network.

In addition, a school can broadcast events through the system and sell advertising. The school would retain 100 percent of the ad revenue.

The board approved three revised policies Monday evening — a policy for professional development opportunities, a child abuse policy and a suicide prevention policy.

The board approved the purchase of amplification systems through CDW-Government. The Lightspeed Redcat System costs $945 per unit through CDW-G. The board agreed to purchase 10 systems for a total price of $9,450.

The amplification system will be used to address “immediate needs” at Moulton Branch Elementary.

The board also approved the 2015-16 Student Parent Handbook. There were minimal changes to the handbook, and no policy or procedural changes.
