Lady Dogs make it three in a row

Lady Dog volleyball is off to the best start in years with three wins in a row. The Lady Dogs added Columbia to the list of Suwannee’s victims Thursday, Sept. 2. Columbia has always been a tough match for the Lady Dogs. They won in four, losing only one game to the Lady Tigers. Suwannee won the first game 25-11, lost the second 23-25 and won two more 25-15 and 25-11. It takes three winning games to win the match.
Kyla Serrano, once again, came on strong with her booming serve. Serrano had 36 service points, 11 of them aces. Serrano also had four assists.
Stephanee Skipper led the Lady Dogs in kills with eight. Skipper, up this year from JV, also had seven service points, two of them aces, three assists and a block.
Ashley Rose had six kills for Suwannee. Rose is the tallest member of the team and a high jumper and long jumper on the track team. Rose works the middle of the net and stays up front. She had five blocks against the Lady Tigers. Rose also had four service points, one of them an ace and one assist.
Heather Benson, Suwannee’s top setter, had 13 assists for the Lady Dogs. Benson also had 10 service points.
New to the team this year, Danielle Smith has developed a great serve. She had 13 service points for Suwannee four of them aces. Smith also had two assists.
Alex Camunas had fur kills for the Lady Dogs, two service points and three assists.
Merlonda Owens had one kill and one assist.
Libero player Nereyda Pecina had three assists.
The JV Lady Dogs also slammed Columbia, winning two out of three and losing none. They won their first game 28-26 in overtime and their second game 25-12. This makes the JV 2-1 for the season. The JV are coached by girls basketball coach Kaffa Owens.
Suwannee takes on East Gadsden in a district match on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
The JV play at 5 p.m. and the varsity will take to the court at 6:30 p.m.
