Change is a constant. The Valdosta Daily Times has resided at the corner of Troup Street and Central Avenue for decades, but the newspaper is planning a move.

As circumstances have changed, the large brick building no longer meets the needs of the Daily Times, so it has been put up for sale. Marketing is being conducted by Bell Cornerstone, a New York-based realty firm that operates nationally. Anyone interested can contact national account manager Daniel C. Lynch, MBA, at (315) 498-1600 for more details.

“The sale of our building is a significant step, but it’s one that allows us to adapt to the changing needs of our newspaper and our community,” Publisher Laurie Gay said.

“We are excited about the opportunity to find a space that will better support our staff and the work we do every day,” she added. “While we’re leaving a location that has been part of our history for so long, our commitment to Valdosta and to delivering quality local news remains unchanged. This move is about positioning ourselves for the future while staying true to the values that have guided us for decades.”

Managing Editor Kevin C. Hall said the staff will continue normal operations while the sale process begins.

“We’ll continue covering the news, selling advertising, producing the newspaper and maintaining our website,” Hall said. “The newspaper’s leadership is looking for other locations more suitable for our staff, but we’re unlikely to move until the current building is under contract.”

When that time does come, the move will be coordinated to minimally affect the newspaper’s operations.

“We’ll stay in Valdosta, of course,” Hall said. “This is our home, and this is where we do our work.”

Also for sale is the Daily Times print facility on Central Avenue at Hill Avenue.

The Daily Times and its sister papers in Tifton, Moultrie and Thomasville, which have printed at the Valdosta location since approximately 2000, are making arrangements to print at the Bainbridge Post-Searchlight. Details of that arrangement are still being finalized.

The Post-Searchlight is owned by Carpenter Media Group, which purchased the Valdosta Daily Times and five other newspapers in Georgia from CNHI earlier this year.

Bell Cornerstone is also marketing the print facility.
