Lawrence Arthur Depew

JENNINGS, Fla. — Lawrence Arthur Depew, 87, of Jennings, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005, at his home. Depew was born in Odessa, N.Y., on Jan. 12, 1918, to the late Walter and Clara Depew. He was a retired master sergeant with the U.S. military. He served in World War II, Vietnam and the Korean Conflict. He was wounded twice while on active duty.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Denise Depew, Jennings, Fla.; three daughters, Barbara Harper, Ocilla, Fla., Loretta McKeehan, Tenn., and Linda Depew, N.M.; one brother, Herbert Depew, Aurora, Colo.; one sister, Alice Pope, Silver Springs, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.,

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Burnham Christian Church. — Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, Fla.



Vinson Duke

ADEL — Vinson Duke, 82, of Adel died March 21, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a sudden illness.

He was born on May 12, 1922, in Morgan to the late Luther Lloyd and Sally Jones Duke and lived in Adel most of his life. He retired as a hospital and nursing home administrator; was a former city clerk and worked at Circlestone Country Club for many years; was a mason, shriner and Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of Adel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Kirkland Duke of Adel; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kirk and Melissa Duke of Moultrie, Ken and Jan Saunders of Sparks; one daughter, Donna Saunders, Duluth; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Duke Jr., Adel, Ben Duke, Gainesville, Ga.; one sister, Faye Brown, Valdosta. He was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Smith; and one brother, Homer Duke.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Adel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Byrd and the Rev. Larry Land officiating. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Russell Harrison

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Russell Harrison, 81, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005, at St. Vincent’s in Jacksonville following a brief illness. Harrison was born in Sandgap, Ky., on Feb. 11, 1924, and lived most of his life in Jacksonville where he was employed by the Duval County School Board. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of Promise Land Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Survivors include four sons, Tommy Earl Harrison, Jasper, Fla.; Calvin Russell Harrison, Glen St. Mary, Dwight Harrison, Bryceville, and Darren Harrison, Whitehouse, Fla.; three daughters, Donna Marie Harrison, Jasper, Fla., Annie Ruth Hulton, Wilmington, Del., and Shirley Laverne Carter, Alma; one sister, Amanda Scott, Detroit, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Calvary Baptist Church in Jasper, Fla. Interment will follow in Hebron Cemetery near Jasper.

Ola B. Singletary

VALDOSTA — Ola B. Singletary, 96, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, March 20, 2005, at her residence after a short illness. Born on Jan. 7, 1909, in Berrien County, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Mary Cook Benefield. Mrs. Singletary was a homemaker and had been a member of the Azalea City Church of God since 1973.

She is survived by her children, Queenie Ola and Lloyd Adams of Ironton, Minn., Mack Daniel and Geneva Singletary, Jessie Mae and Sterling Garnto, Charles David and Kay Singletary, Lawana Gail and Richard Palmer, all of Valdosta; 20 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Minnie Singletary of Nashville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Singletary; a son, Lankford Singletary of Fargo; and a daughter, Rue Helen Rogers Churchwell of East Dublin.

Funeral services for Ola B. Singletary will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at the Azalea City Church of God with the Rev. Raymond Gabbard and the Rev. Bobby Tatum officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Berrien County. Claude U. Taylor

ADEL — Claude U. Taylor, 75, of Adel died March 20, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a long illness.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1930, in Cook County to the late Clements Warren and Retha Irene Connell Taylor and lived in Adel for the past 25 years. He was retired from the Pepsi Cola Co., was a Marine veteran of the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Crosby Taylor of Adel; one son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Irene Taylor of Virginia Beach; two daughters and son-in-law, Sandra and David Coody, Valdosta, Elaine Stone, Nashville; one stepdaughter, Audry Hardgraves, Nashville; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Lamar C. and Pete Taylor of Avon Park, Fla.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Glyn Bailey, Brenda Rowland, Weida and Billy Jack May, all of Nashville, Olivia Leen and Evans McCorvey, Albany; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jettie Johnson; and one brother, Bobby Jerry Mize.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lamar C. Taylor officiating. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Rudolph Davis Jr.

Rudolph Davis Jr., 33, of Quitman passed away Saturday, March 19, 2005, at his residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but will be announced later by Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home of Quitman.
