Gladys Evelyn Jones Edwards

Gladys Evelyn Jones Edwards, 85, of 3 Sherbrook Lane, Taylors, S.C. died Dec. 7, 2005 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

A native of Oconee County, daughter of the late Lucius Jackson and Maggie Lou Moore Jones, she was a retired employee of Holiday Inn, Valdosta, Ga., and a member of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her husband, Hubert A. Edwards of the home; two sons, Kenneth Michael Edwards of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Hubert Dale Edwards (Vicki) of Valdosta, Ga.; a daughter Dolores E. Weathers (John) of Greenville; two sisters, Mary Cantrell of La France, S.C. and Virginia Sorrells of Seneca; and eight grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, Michael, Brian, Travis, Clay, Sarah Lynn and Gregg.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Peter Spink and the Rev. Randy Smith. Entombment will follow in Oconee Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Honorary escort will be the Fellowship Sunday School class.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church. The family is at the home.

William Goronwy Eager III

William Goronwy Eager III, 62, of Valdosta died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 6, 1943 in Baltimore, Md. to the late William G., Jr. and Dorothy Hopkins Eager. He graduated from McCallie School and Emory University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. In 1993, he was inducted into the Emory Sports Hall of Fame (soccer). Mr. Eager served in the United States Air Force as a General’s Aide. He was a Senior Portfolio Managing Director of Smith Barney and served as a member of the Portfolio Management Group Advisory Committee and the Directors’ Council. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving as Senior Warden and Chalice Administrator and in many elective positions on the Diocesan level, currently serving on the Board of the Corporation. In the community, he was a founding member and former president of the North Valdosta Rotary Club, the Board of Trustees of Valwood School and a member of the Community Foundation of South Georgia.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Carolyn; two sons Grant Eager and his wife Ginger of Decatur, Allen Eager of Savannah; one grandson Callum Eager of Decatur; mother Dorothy Hopkins Eager; one sister and brother-in-law Josie and Frank Beadle of Atlanta; one brother and sister-in-law Robert and Mary Eager of Potomac, Md.; mother-in-law Vinita Hall of Monett, Mo.; and brother-in-law Richard Hall of Union City, Tenn.; along with numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, the late William G. Eager, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 at Christ Episcopal Church with the Right Rev. Henry I. Louttit, the Rev. Peter Ingeman and the Rev. Lee Shafer, Dea. Stella Clark, Dea. Karyl Miller and Dea. Dr. Patricia Marks officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Second Harvest Food Bank, Hospice of South Georgia or Valwood School.
