Herbert “Sonny” Harrison Jr.

Mr. Herbert H. “Sonny” Harrison Jr., 86 of Quitman passed away Thursday evening, January 14, 2016 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta. Mr. Harrison was born February 24, 1929 in Perry, Florida to Mr. Hugh Harrison, Sr. and Sallie Mae Long Harrison. Mr. Harrison was educated at Walker Street Elementary, Quitman High School and Dalonega Military College of Geoergia. After college Mr. Harrison returned to Quitman where he heldped run the family business, Harrison Oil Co., with his father and two uncles for many years. He was known locally for his beautifully built custom control line model airplanes and taught others how to build and fly them over the years. He also enjoyed the gulf coast with his family and friends and was often seen around Suwannee, Florida reeling in the catch of the day. Survivors include his wife, Betty Southwell Harrison of Quitman and sister Jean Harrison Russ of Pensacola. Mr. Harrison’s children include, Robert H. Harrison (Leah) of Valdosta, Carolyn Harrison Sirmans (Wesley) of Quitman, and stepson, Shannon Boyer (Paula) of Bainbridge, GA.; his grandchildren include Steven Christian Sirmans of Orlando, and Rachel Harrison Bennett (Justin) of Valdosta; great granddaughter, Jessica Sirmans of Ohio; stepgrandchildren, Brittany Webb, Anna-Marie Boyer, and Ruby Cervantes. He is also survived by James Dexter Russ, IV, and Avery & Drew Werner of Pensacola.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 18, 2016 at Oak Hill Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pam France officiating.
