Carl A. Purefoy, 53, of Mercersburg, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at home in Mercersburg, Pa.
Mr. Purefoy was born Feb. 15, 1962, in Durham, N.C. He was the son of Nathaniel (Rex) Purefoy and the late Armanda (Moran) Purefoy.
He was in broadcasting for 22 years, known as Mr. Rock and Roll in many states including South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. He had extensive knowledge of all music genres including Country and Western, Doo Wop, Blues and Rock and Roll. Prior to his career in broadcasting, he attended Southeast High School in Kansas City, Mo. For the last 11 years, he was employed with the United States Census Bureau in Hagerstown, Md. Carl will be sadly missed by his precious cat, Miss Kitty, whom he absolutely adored.
He enjoyed his music, including playing his guitar, and visiting the Southwest, especially Arizona and New Mexico. He had broad knowledge of all B Western Cowboys dating back to the 1930s. Carl was always a cowboy at heart, following in the footsteps of his father who is known as the Hollywood Cowboy. Carl was often seen sporting fancy cowboy shirts and cowboy boots along with his custom made cowboy hats and sterling ranger sets. In true cowboy fashion, he was proficient in his skills with a bullwhip, roping, gun spinning, and riding horses. Carl’s charming personality and his wonderful views on life will forever leave a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his beloved partner of 16 years, Leila (Lil) E. Stottlemeyer; his father, Nathaniel (Rex) Purefoy and two brothers, Navarro Purefoy and Armando Purefoy, all of Kansas City, Mo.; his son, Carlo Purefoy of Valdosta, Ga.; and his daughter, Carlyn Purefoy, of Jacksonville, Fla.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ellen Moran.
