Brenda Carroll (Hill) Hathaway
Published 9:00 am Saturday, January 9, 2016
Brenda Carroll (Hill) Hathaway, 64, was born on May 8, 1951, to Eugene Sidney Hill and Charles Mabel (Jordan) Hill in Oxford, Miss. Although Brenda’s parents have gone before her, she was survived by her husband, David; and her stepson, Edgar. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara; and brothers, Mike and Keith. On her husband’s side, she is survived by Jim and Lorna, Mike and Michelle, Gene and Cheri, Brian and Nancy.
As a teenager in the 1960s, Brenda was an original flower child and became a Vietnam War protester after losing a close friend, Danny Lightsey died in it. She traveled far and wide throughout the USA including Hait Ashbury in San Francisco and protested at the Democratic convention in 1972, in Miami. She worked an honest living as a bartender for over 40 years from New Orleans eventually to Valdosta.
Through her life she loved many things including her small dogs she rescued from an animal shelter, working with ceramics, of course her family and friends, and yes, rum and coke. To know Brenda was to see her laugh and smile and a friend to everyone she met.
In her last months, Brenda was cared for at home by her husband, David; and stepson, Edgar. Never complaining she was taken to South Georgia Medical Center where she died on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016.
Hopefully, those who read this will understand that Brenda lived her life with conviction of what she believed to be right based on a foundation of love for one another. This world is just a little better because she was here and that is how she should be remembered.
As per her wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at 3 p.m. in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services.
