NEWBURY, Mass. – Two teenagers engaging in consensual sex in a dorm room at a prestigious East Coast boarding school has resulted in criminal charges against the boy for secretly videotaping the tryst.

Isaiah Wing, 18, of Millbrook, New York, is charged with photographing an unsuspecting nude person, a 16-year-old girl student, in his quarters at Governor’s Academy last fall. Wing was 17 at the time.

A police investigation into the one-nighter disclosed Wing set up a Go-Pro camera in his dorm room without the girl knowing it before they had sexual intercourse. Police said Wing admitted he videotaped the encounter but falsely stated he destroyed the tape afterwards.

The girl told her parents and the police about the videotape when she heard talk about it on campus, including that Wing had possibly shown it to classmates. Her mother said her daughter was emotionally devastated by the rumors.

Police said Wing claimed he did not transfer the videotape to his personal computer and had destroyed the camera’s data card. He also denied showing it to anyone.

But a forensic examination of the camera turned up a 21-minute video file showing Wing and the girl having sex. Police said Wing had attempted to destroy the file before they seized it as evidence.

Wing, a senior at the school at the time, had been prepared to plead guilty in court Tuesday under a no-jail time agreement with prosecutors, but his attorney asked for a continuance of the case when the girl’s mother broke down in tears while reading an emotional victim’s impact statement. She said her daughter suffered “more pain than you can imagine” as a result of the rumors and Wing’s denial to her that he had videotaped their sexual encounter.

The judge suggested Wing admit to sufficient facts and then return later for sentencing. Wing’s attorney and the prosecutor agreed. A disposition hearing was set for May 27.

Under state law, the judge could sentence Wing up to 2 1/2 years in the county jail and fine him $5,000. Prosecutors have recommended a guilty finding with a sentence of a year in jail, suspended for five years while on probation. Wing’s attorney had recommended the charge be continued without finding for 18 months, meaning it would be erased from Wing’s record if he stays out of further trouble.

The Governor’s Academy incident is the second student sex case publicly disclosed at one of the nation’s top prep boarding schools. Last year, a student, Owen Labrie, at St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, was sentenced to a year in jail for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl as part of a sexual conquest competition.

Peter Quimby, head of school for Governor’s Academy, released a statement saying the school promptly cooperated with authorities upon learning of the incident. He said they also removed Wing from the campus. He is no longer a student at the school.

“This behavior is completely contrary to the Academy’s values and culture, and inconsistent with the morals and ethics we teach our students,” the statement said. “Our focus now is on supporting the student who was harmed in this incident, and ensuring that our campus is a safe and healthy environment for every student.”
